Village Gates Project

Proposed Weight Restriction

As you are aware there is significant building work taking place in the neighbouring parish of Tatenhill with the development of a new school and housing in the Lawns Farm area.

Dunstall PC and Tatenhill and Rangemore PC have been working with Staffs County Council to mitigate the impact of the development on surrounding areas.

In this respect Staffs County Highways have proposed a 7.5 tonne weight restriction on several roads leading from the A38 to the A515, in order to restrict any additional HGV’s that are using the area.  We understand that this proposal does not impact local businesses who have vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in weight that need to access the area but we are seeking clarification on this point.

We will update this post when we have more information regarding the times lines to implement this change.

A diagram of the roads impacted can be found attached below.

Village Gates Project

Dunstall Parish Council has been working very closely with Tatenhill and Rangemore PC and also Staffs County Highways looking at range of measures to improve road safety throughout the Parish. As a first step we have agreed a scheme involving the erection of gates sited on roadside verges to help clearly mark the boundary of the village and areas of housing to passing traffic. At the moment there is a national speed limit in the village and surrounding areas, the village gates and planters will help to create a visual reminder to drivers that there is a change of driving behaviour required and that safety is a priority. DPC has raised around £10,000 to pay for the gates with funding from various sources. The PC would like to thank in particular ESBC, Councillors Julia Jessel and Jacqui Jones, and the Barton and Dunstall Key Trust for their contributions to the project. The gates we hope are a first step in implementing other safety measures. Updates will be given at future PC meetings and will be posted on the PC website. The gates will be installed over the next couple of months.

The detail of the scheme can be found in the attachments to this page.  Including locations of the gates and the planters, the funding requests for ESBC and Barton and Dunstall Key Trusts for information.

If you require any further updates or clarifications then feel free to contact any member of the DPC.

Traffic update 2 – URGENT PLEASE READ

DUNSTALL PARISH COUNCIL
NEWS FLASH 2015

Dunstall Parish Council has continued to pursue the issue of road safety in the parish with Staffordshire County Council.

In November 2014 a meeting was held with Mr Rayson of Staffordshire Highways, County Councillor Corbett and members of the Parish Council at Dunstall cross roads to highlight the speed, increasing volume of traffic and issues with poor visibility at the junction. We also discussed accidents that have been recorded over the last few years at the junction.

Mr Rayson was very supportive and organised a survey to monitor traffic and propose a scheme to improve the junction. The scheme was forwarded to the PC who made it available on the PC web site for parishioners to review and provide feedback.

One of the ideas from the PC was to place rumble strips on the side roads to alert traffic to the upcoming junction. However it was explained that these were not allowed within 50metres of houses due to noise issues. The PC, therefore surveyed the locals to gain feedback. These were not popular and rumble strips will NOT form part of the scheme.

The agreed scheme can be summarised as follows: –

There will be 2 No VAS (vehicular activated signs) powered by solar panels situated on the C18 (Forest Road) either side of the junction set back at an approved standard distance, these will not be close to the houses. The existing signs will also be replaced with new ones.

The stop signs on the side roads at the approach to the junction will be replaced with new signs of the same size, however they will be mounted on a reflective backboard and will be set further towards the hedgerow to avoid any clashes with high sided vehicles. The stop signs at the actual junction will also be replaced with new ones.

The road markings will be repainted with ‘stop’ written on the approach roads and the white lines refreshed.

The improvements are due for completion at the end of March 2015.

Parishioners are welcome to attend the next PC meeting on the 19th March to discuss the scheme further.

Dunstall Parish Traffic update – URGENT PLEASE READ

Following a meeting to consider the issue of traffic at Dunstall Cross in November 2014 between Dunstall PC and Staffs County Council, SCC have subsequently undertaken a detailed traffic survey of the cross roads.

We are pleased to confirm the outcome of the survey which is to recommend and implement several improvements to the cross roads.

Improvements will include the implementation of Vehicle Activated Road signs to alert drivers to the cross roads, repainting of road markings and new signs on the approach to the cross roads.

Additionally we plan to feedback to SCC on the scheme and will ask for consideration to be made also to the inclusion of no overtaking road markings on the approach and over the cross roads as well as possible rumble strips to the approach roads to the main road.

The improvements are planned to be implemented by the end of March 2015.

If you have any feedback or require any further information please contact on of the Parish Councillors and we will be only to happy to help.

Dunstall Parish Traffic – update

The PC met with Tim and Richard from Staffs County Council as planned to consider the issue of traffic at Dunstall Cross.

Several options were discussed including installation of vehicle activated signs, various other signs, rumble strips and road markings.

Richard has agreed to undertake a full survey over the next couple of weeks and let us have his recommendations. His initial thoughts were a combination of activated signs and road markings. The signs would require funding from SCC and he will look in to this as well.

In the mean time the PC will write to local residence to take their views re the potential use of rumble strips (as they can create noise).

We will follow up with Richard in a couple of weeks for the survey results and will post the update on the PC website.

Dunstall Parish Traffic

The PC meets on a regular basis and a topic of concern is often traffic related both in terms of volume increases and speed. Previous requests have been made to the County Council highways to reduce the speed limit through the main village and also on the main cross roads at Dunstall Cross. The speed limits for both roads are currently set at the national level.
To echo our concerns there was another accident at Dunstall Cross (August 2014).
To progress we have invited Richard Rayson of Staffs County Council Highways department and County Councillor Tim Corbet to a Parish meeting on the 20th November 2014. Richard and Tim will make a site assessment at 3.30 pm. At 4.00 pm we will meet at the village hall so that we can discuss the issue and the alternatives to address our safety concerns.

The meeting is open to all Parishioners and will be followed by our regular PC meeting. If you cant attend the meeting but would like any points to be raised then please send them in advance to .
