BEST KEPT VILLAGE COMMUNITY COMPETITION 1st May – 31st July
A little bit of history on the event –
The Community Foundation for Staffordshire took over running the Best Kept Village competition in 2018. They are proud to be the custodians of a competition steeped in tradition, dating back to 1956. The competition was originally started to encourage village residents to take pride in their communities and whilst that aim continues to date, they are developing the competition with an increased focus on community cohesion within the villages and the competition was renamed the ‘Best Kept Village Community’ competition in 2018.
It has generated community spirit and pride in villages for many years, Teams of judges will visit each village, in the first round of judging in May and then again in June. The Large and Small Villages with the highest marks will go forward to the Area Finals, which will be judged in July. The Best Large and the Best Small Village in each Area (based on the aggregated marks for June, July and the Area Finals) will then go forward to the County Finals, which will be judged in late July.

Dunstall Village has again entered the Best Kept Village Community Competition in the small villages category and is eager to ensure the village looks neat and tidy and hope that parishioners will help in ensuring the village looks its best. The judges look at the Church and Church Hall, features of the village, such as the Lions Well, greens, public open space, the notice boards and litter bins as well as the general attractiveness of the village and points are warded for each. Any efforts you can make with the removal of litter and rubbish would be most appreciated, parishioners are asked if they could make an effort to keep wheelie bins out of sight and hedges neat and tidy, Thank You.
